Getting Started: How to Apply for a wamo Account

Updated today

Welcome to wamo! We’ve designed our onboarding process to be smooth, secure, and straightforward.

It typically takes just 15 minutes to submit your application, and our team usually completes the review within 2 to 48 hours.

Although you'll find our account opening process straightforward, as a regulated financial institution, we have a strong responsibility to our customers' security and to preventing financial crime. As part of this commitment, we require certain personal and company information to ensure the integrity of your account. You'll likely have all this information at hand and we promise that it's a step worth taking!

All information and documents are handled confidentially and retained securely for legal for regulatory reasons only. We encourage you to read our privacy policy for more details.

Who can apply?

Before going ahead and applying for an account, we recommend that you first check your business' country eligibility and industry eligibility for a wamo business account.

Step 1: Create Your Profile (2 Minutes)

You can apply via our website, but we recommend the wamo business app for the best experience. We’ll start with the basics:

  • Your full name

  • Business email address

  • Phone number

Step 2: Identity Verification (2–8 Minutes)

To keep your account secure, we perform a digital biometric check.

  1. Scan your ID: Upload a clear image of your Passport, ID Card, or Driving License.

  2. Biometric Video: You'll be asked to complete a short video to verify your identity.

  3. For Companies (LLCs): We also require the names and addresses of other directors and shareholders. While they don't need to do the biometric video, you will need to upload images of their IDs.

Step 3: Business Details (5 Minutes)

We need to understand the nature of your work:

  • Business Name & Address: Where your business is officially registered.

  • Online Presence: Your website URL or social media pages (LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.). If you don't have these, you can describe how you market your services.

  • Nature of Business: A brief description of the products or services you buy or sell.

Step 4: Required Documents

The documents we need depend on how your business is structured. Please ensure all documents are dated within the last 3 years unless specified otherwise.

Registered Companies (LLC/Ltd)

Sole Traders & Freelancers

Certificate of Incorporation

Business Tax Registration documents

Memorandum & Articles of Association

Proof of Address (Dated within the last 6 months)

Registry Extract (showing beneficial owners)

Proof of Address (Dated within the last 3 months)

What happens next?

Once you’ve submitted your application, our compliance team will get to work. After your account is opened, we may reach out personally to get to know your business better—this helps us ensure we’re providing the best possible service for your specific needs.
